What’s new at Up Learn this term
And the 4 major problems the new features and functionality solve for schools and students.
Teachers are under more pressure than ever. Between lesson planning, marking, interventions, and supporting students who fall behind, time is a resource you never have enough of. At Up Learn, we’ve listened to your feedback and made changes to make your life easier, and to help your students reach mastery faster.
This term, we’re rolling out improvements that make assigning work, tracking progress, and keeping students motivated simpler and more effective than ever.
Problem 1: “I don’t have time to set, chase, and mark work.”
The solution: A one-stop shop for setting and monitoring assignments.
We know teachers need fewer clicks and clearer visibility. That’s why we’ve updated the department page which you’ll see when you log in. From this one central place, teachers can go to pages to:
- Set and monitor work for your class
- Instantly see which students are on track (and who’s falling behind)
- Quickly identify and celebrate progress
Problem 2: “I can’t understand how students and classes are progressing.”
The solution: Simpler, more actionable insights
Complex dashboards are no help if you can’t use the data. Our improved scoring and reporting system makes it crystal clear what matters:
- Green means mastery (80%+): students are ready to move on
- Decay shows forgetting: students need to refresh their knowledge
- Actionable guidance: teachers and leaders can see exactly where to focus effort
For school leaders and Up Learn Champions, ‘the departments page is now the single place to review how well Up Learn is being implemented across the school, with tailored guidance on how to improve usage and impact.

Problem 3: “Ensuring students are making an effort with their homework.”
The solution: A smarter scoring model that rewards persistence
Many students fear failure, but in reality, mistakes are the path to learning. With our updated model:
- Students aren’t penalised for mistakes; they just need to keep going until they reach green
- It’s easier to improve scores, through faster, more effective Refresh Knowledge quizzes. Refresh Knowledge is a personalised spaced practice quiz, based on past work by the student on Up Learn.
- A clear target (green scores across subjects) keeps motivation high and expectations simple
This makes it easier for teachers to set high standards without discouraging learners.
Problem 4: “Ensuring students have access to relevant, high quality content.”
The solution: A smarter scoring model that rewards persistence
Our content team has been hard at work:
- Maths: 50 of the longest sections shortened to make learning more manageable
- Psychology: Full support for the new syllabus and expanded Paper 3 content
We’ll continue to refine and update content so teachers can be confident students are learning the right material in the most efficient way.
Success Made Simple: Easy as 1, 2, 3
To maximise results, we recommend a simple, school-wide implementation model:
- Teachers assign 1–2 sections per week per subject
- Students complete assignments until they reach green (mastery)
- Students use Refresh Knowledge regularly to keep scores green
That’s it. Three steps to build lasting knowledge and maximise A Level success.
Why these changes matter
Education is demanding. Teachers and leaders need tools that reduce workload while raising standards. Students need platforms that keep them motivated and moving forward.
With our Q1 improvements, Up Learn does both:
✅ Less admin for teachers
✅ Clearer insights for leaders
✅ Better outcomes for students
We’ll continue listening, refining, and supporting schools to ensure Up Learn isn’t just another tool, but the most effective way to secure top results for your students.
