September New School Features Update
This September sees the launch of a host of features that have been specifically created to improve the school experience. Customer feedback is central to our organisation and we’ve spent the last year listening and testing new features with our users. We’re delighted to announce significant improvements across our platform that schools have been asking for!
The new functionality makes Up Learn even better to use and easier to implement for everyone.
New Features and Better Functionality
Here’s a quick overview of what is launching this September:
1. Manage assignments with Up Learn
Directing independent study and homework is made easy for teachers with Up Learn. The new functionality helps teachers set assignments and topics for students to work on – it allows you to set, track and report. Assignments can be set for the day, the week, the month or term. It takes the heavy lift out of the ever-polarising concept of homework – and even better, it marks it for you too!
Simply go in, set the assignments and set the deadline.
2. Easier to track and understand students’ progress
The teacher dashboard now makes it even easier to understand progress at an individual, class or department level. At-a-glance colour coding gives you a clear (and quick) understanding of how progress is being made, whether tasks are being completed and the level of mastery that students are gaining.
Colour coded attainment scores help you easily identify areas of weakness on a section-by-section basis. These scores are underpinned by Up Learn’s sophisticated learning algorithm.
Reporting takes into account
- Number of correct answers
- The student’s best answer in each area
- The forgetting curve
Advanced Insights
If teachers and school leaders want to create their own analysis of progress, the new CSV/Excel download feature enables teachers to create custom reporting.
Easier to use for schools
School life is ever-changing and so is your data, that’s why with our seamless sync, our student, teacher and class-level data will always match up with what’s happening in your classroom.
Our partnership with Wonde enables our platform to seamlessly sync with your school Management Information System eg. SIMs or Arbor. After the onboarding meeting with your Data Manager and the Wonde system being activated, Up Learn will be able to seamlessly sync with your system, enabling real-time, automatic updates.
3. Combatting the forgetting curve
The new school year sees the launch of improved quizzes and scoring that combat the forgetting curve and recognise quality engagement through spaced practice and promoting interleaved learning.
Through a unique algorithm that tracks results across quizzes and sections, Up Learn ensures that students are provided with quizzes that are based on their own personal learning journey. Students are redirected to questions they’re at risk of forgetting, or have previously got wrong and need to revisit, actively combating the forgetting curve, tackling areas of weakness and ensuring that learning is continually embedded. The algorithm also factors in the length of time after the section has been learned, with the students’ scores depreciating as the length of time from recall gets longer, mirroring their memory decay.
4. Rewarding learning and embedding healthy habits
We all know that often people choose the path of least resistance to get to the required outcome. Up Learn’s new features also ensure that students are nudged into the right behaviours on the platform. With students central to the success of Up Learn, ensuring the very best student experience is critical.
Our September releases aim to increase student engagement and help build learning habits that will ensure success for life. Part of the A Level curriculum is to help embed healthy learning habits and support students as they mature and become ready for their next step in life.
No points will be awarded to students who repeat the same activity – e.g. repeating the same video or quiz within a 1 month period. This encourages students to select new content and ensure that their knowledge base is growing rather than repeating topics to simply accumulate points.
Additionally, whilst students may be tempted to skip through videos, they won’t be able to skip their learning, as they’ll receive no points and it won’t count towards their productive hours spent on the platform. Up Learn’s algorithm will then redirect them back to their lessons, ensuring no topic is missed, hence maximising their potential for learning and success.
