What if I'm in Year 12? How does the guarantee apply to me?

If you sit an official exam, the guarantee applies. This is straightforward for Year 12 students with plans that last until the end of Year 13, as that is when you will sit your official A Level exams. Year 12 students with plans that expire at the end of Year 12 are covered for official AS exams that they sit. Additionally, students on these plans have the option to renew their access to the end of Year 13, with the full amount they spend over 2 years covered by the guarantee.

How come other companies or tutors don't do this?

To the best of our knowledge, no other revision or learning solution focuses on quality as much as we do. Furthermore, the technology to enable tutors to deliver the best lesson possible to each student every single week, or to know that students have covered every topic to an A* standard and retained that knowledge over time, doesn't yet exist outside of Up Learn.

How does the A*/A Guarantee work for subjects/exam boards with optional content?

If you are doing a course such as AQA Psychology or AQA Physics (where Papers 1 and 2 are standardised, but you can choose which topics to answer on Paper 3), you may find that the Paper 3 topics that Up Learn covers do not match what you are covering in school. If you are doing optional content that is different to the content covered by Up Learn, our guarantee still applies to Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Why is Up Learn so cheap?

If you personally paid our teachers/tutors to tutor you one-to-one for the same number of hours they have spent producing an Up Learn course, you would rack up a bill close to £100,000. So how come we can offer Up Learn for just a few hundred? Well, we have captured the best of the one-to-one tuition learning experience and scaled it with technology. This allows a previously pay-per-hour service to be delivered to everyone simultaneously. We have priced Up Learn in a way that allows us to help as many students as possible, whilst also covering our costs.

Complete the course

All you have to do is complete the course. A course is considered completed when a student achieves an Up Score of 90% or above and maintains this up to the day of their exams.

Sit a qualified exam

You must sit AQA GCSE Combined Science – Trilogy (Higher Tier) to be eligible for a refund. The guarantee applies to exams taken from 2026 onwards. Foundation Tier and Synergy exams are not covered.

Claim within 14 days

Why should I aim to complete the course?

Our research has found that the more time students spend on Up Learn, the more their grades improve. For some students, it makes sense to complete the Up Learn GCSE Combined Science course — these students unlock the 8–8 Money-Back Guarantee. Other students will use Up Learn to patch specific gaps in their knowledge, without needing to complete the course. These students won't aim to unlock the money-back guarantee, but can still go on to achieve 8–8 (or whatever their target grade is). This is similar to how students would use a tutor.

What if I finish the course and don't get 8–8?

If you complete Up Learn and get an 8-7 or below in AQA GCSE Combined Science (Trilogy, Higher Tier), you get your money back. All you have to do is send us a copy of your official exam-board-issued results document with your full name and grades via chat or email, and we’ll process your refund immediately — no questions asked.

Does the guarantee apply if I pay monthly?

Absolutely! Whether you pay monthly or in one go, as long as you complete your course to 90%, we’ll refund everything you paid.

What if I’m in Year 10 or Year 12? How does the guarantee apply to me?

Our guarantee covers all payments towards sitting an official exam. That covers you if you take a GCSE early, sit an AS Level, or if you purchase during Year 10 or Year 12, and then renew the following year - everything gets refunded!

How does the 8–8 Guarantee work for different specifications?

Up Learn's GCSE Science course is built specifically for AQA Combined Science (Trilogy). Students studying AQA Combined Science (Synergy) are still welcome to use Up Learn, and many find it very helpful for building understanding. However, Synergy is assessed differently and is not an exact match to our course. Because of this, the 8–8 Guarantee applies only to AQA Combined Science (Trilogy) and does not cover the Synergy specification.

Our guarantee only applies if your exam board matches the one you use on Up Learn. However, 100s of students have still seen success using Up Learn even if their exam board is different! Check out our handy guide here
